How QU!CK Scan & Go Implemented IoT Monitoring in Zabbix to Operate 24/7
This case study describes how QU!CK Scan & Go implemented IoT monitoring in Zabbix in collaboration with CTL to ensure continuous availability, reduce losses due to power outages, and improve operational control in its self-service stores.
Context
QU!CK Scan & Go is an Argentine startup that pioneers the development and management of autonomous grocery stores, available 24/7 in residential and corporate buildings. Its operations rely on technological infrastructure and IoT devices to ensure service continuity.
Challenge
With stores open 24/7 without on-site staff, QU!CK Scan & Go needed to ensure continuous availability and reduce product losses caused by power outages and operational failures. The lack of real-time visibility into critical variables (power, connectivity, temperature, and security) posed an operational and financial risk, especially given the country’s history of power outages.
- Energy monitoring and power outages.
- Connectivity and link loss monitoring.
- Temperature monitoring (ambient and refrigeration).
- Security monitoring: doors and unauthorized access.
Operational signal
Real-time visualization (light mode) to display trends and variations in events.
The solution
CTL proposed and implemented a Zabbix-based solution tailored to QU!CK Scan & Go’s autonomous business model. The project included configuring agents on critical devices at each location, integrating IoT sensors, and setting up dashboards to monitor the status of all points of sale from a single location.
Technical implementation
- Configuring Zabbix agents on critical devices by store.
- Integration of IoT sensors for temperature, door status, and electricity usage.
- Definition of critical metrics: power outages, loss of connectivity, unauthorized access, and temperatures outside the normal range.
- Custom dashboards for centralized viewing of all data points.
- Real-time automatic alerts to the support and maintenance team for an immediate response.
Results
Reducing losses caused by prolonged power outages through monitoring and alerts.
Greater visibility and control thanks to real-time monitoring and automated alerts.
Full availability of monitored services at all locations.
Faster return on new openings, thanks to preventive management and a reduction in incidents.
Next steps
The project continues to expand alongside the growth of the network. The next phase involves migrating the visualization to native Zabbix dashboards (eliminating external systems) and incorporating new IoT metrics with greater automation of corrective processes.
